Membership Questions
Q: How can I become a member?
A: Membership is by invitation only. The invitation can be from the President or members.
Q: What are membership qualifications?
A: Members must be:
- Adult women over the age of 25+. This book club is for the “grown and sexy”. :)
- Be avid readers. If you do not have a love for reading, this may not be the club for you.
Q: When are meetings?
A: Meetings will take place on the 3rd Saturday every other month at 2:00 p.m.
Q: How are books selected? What is the process?
A: We want to give each member an opportunity to select a book and become a hostess. Because we are small, we will start by asking for volunteers to become a hostess and select a book. As we grow, we will move to drawing names.
Q: What type of books may be selected?
A: Each member is different. To explain, one member may have a love for Christian fiction, the next Urban fiction, etc. We are open to all genres. It is up to the hostess. It is important to point out – we want to support our African American authors FIRST. However, other authors are welcome.
Other Questions
Q: We will support other book clubs?
A: Absolutely! It is BAB’s goal to connect with other book clubs in Louisiana and other areas in the United States! This gives BAB an opportunity to network, support other groups.
Q: Will we participate in other volunteer events?
A: Yes! This is part of our mission. Our mission is to promote literary in our community. Some volunteer events may include reading to the children at the library or community centers, visiting hospitals to read to children with illnesses, and any other volunteer opportunity. Each member is encouraged to bring suggestions!
