Books and Beignets (BAB) was established in March 2009 by Sonya Ward. The first interest meeting took place on place on April 18, 2009. BAB's first official book club meeting took place on May 30, 2009. Ms. Ward is an avid reader of books and was a member of one of the baddest book clubs in Atlanta, Georgia, Circle of Friends II. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Sonya moved to Monroe, Louisiana and could not find a local African American book club. After encouragement from some of her old book club friends, she decided to create her own book club. She asked a few of her coworkers and friends if they would be interested in joining and the rest is history! BAB was born!
